Introduction

Material selection for oil and gas well equipment is a critical aspect of well construction and completion design. Selecting the incorrect material can lead to premature failures, resulting in significant costs associated with equipment replacement and productivity loss. This training course is a complete package of topics that cover all aspects in relation to oil and gas well construction and completion material selection, fundamental knowledge, well integrity management, standards, downhole corrosion, metallic & non-metallic material selection strategies and case studies. In addition, the delegates get familiar with two software for evaluation and determination of corrosion in steels (PREDICT®) and CRA material selection for corrosive oil and gas applications (SOCRATES®).

This GLOMACS Material Selection in Oil and Gas Upstream training course will highlight:

  • Well construction & completion components, well integrity management system and basic metallurgy
  • Downhole corrosion mechanisms and failure case studies
  • Casing and tubing standards, grades & manufacturing
  • Strategies for metallic and non-metallic material selection
  • Material selection case studies and software simulation

Objectives

By the end of this Material Selection in Oil and Gas Upstream training course, participants will:

  • Learn how to plan and develop an effective material selection approach
  • Understand applicable standards and guidelines for oil well production downhole corrosion and material selection
  • Comprehend chemical composition of production fluids, and the effect of specific factors on corrosion mechanisms
  • Gain knowledges on corrosion management best practices including corrosion resistant alloys
  • Hear case studies and lessons learned globally on this important subject matter
  • Learn how to design and simulate material selection

Training Methodology

This training course will be presented using properly designed slides, some and animation on relevant issues. A printed manual containing all the slides and/or electronic form in PDF will be delivered to each attendant. Teaching methods include also pre and post evaluation test on related issues.

Organisational Impact

Organisation will gain (direct and indirect) the following:

  • Heightened confidence and motivation
  • Lower cost of production – eliminates risks because trained personnel are able to make better
  • Reduced turnover – greater sense of job, subsequently lowering employee turnover
  • Change management – involvement of employees in the change process

Personal Impact

Personnel will gain the following:

  • Acquire proficiency in crafting and executing a proficient material selection strategy.
  • Verify your comprehension of pertinent standards and guidelines governing corrosion and material selection in oil well production.
  • Familiarize with the chemical composition of production fluids and the influence of specific variables on corrosion mechanisms.
  • Cultivate expertise in implementing best practices for corrosion management, including the use of corrosion-resistant alloys.
  • Absorb insights from global case studies and shared experiences pertaining to this critical subject.
  • Master the art of designing and simulating material selection strategies.
